Search engines find out about your backlinks strictly by crawling other websites and finding your link there. It takes time for that link count to build. Just because you've posted to 10 forums today doesn't mean your link will be counted by search engines right away. It depends how often they're crawling that site and if they crawl to that deep a level on that site. (avoid threads that are 100 pages long for example if you're trying to just use forums as a means of getting backlinks - of course this problem is killing forums everywhere)
