I would say it really depends on what you're looking for. Social media nowadays, does have the edge regarding PR and Marketing campaigns, however I wouldn't go as far as to write off traditional marketing channels such as SEO. It provides something different and in opinion, whatever is that you're trying to achieve, a combination of both will suit you perfectly.
