Is SEO affected by geographical location of hosting server?

I have heard that geographical based hosting affects the SEO results

drastically, is that true?

I have a web site with the .co.uk domain name and I have heard from

someone that if my site is hosted on a web server located in UK then it

would be very advantageous for my site to rank high on www.google.co.uk

and www.yahoo.co.uk search engines.

Is this true or a myth?

yes it helps... but the main thing which matter good ranking in SE's is your content......

If your site has original content rich then there is no need to host your site in regionally unless you target your product regionally....

The hosting location is not a factor as many doifferent country sites are hosted all over teh world. Some people say it is prefered to get links from UK based domains for UK sites. A .co.uk domain will rank much better in UK than a .com. So get .co.uk domain and even if it is hosted in your US then you should be fine.

I agree the domain name is what counts the most, if you are in the UK get a .co.uk domain name.

Does anyone have anymore thoughts on this? Has anyone specifically tested it the two sites equivalent but for one being hosted in the same country and one in a different county from it's ccTLD?

It doesn't feature on seoMoz's Ranking Factors V2.
