There is a lot of information on this forum about optimising for search engines, I guess that is because it is an SEO forum, IMO and I am sure the majority of people reading this it is a case of luck.
It is very obvious to see that having the keyword twice in the title, description and having a URL with that keyword is one of the main factors because it is highlighted when you do a search.
I have also noticed that when the word blog is mentioned on thius forum that the poster seldom gets a response, Is this because no one uses them or no one understands them.
If its because people are not using them I suggest you are not doing all you can to get your website listed.
When I create a website I always wear stilts and avoid this mysterious sand pit, I think it was just a rumour created to get some webdesigner out of a whole for failing to get a site listed.
My sites are normally crawled in a day or 2 just by using a free submission program on a website and listed in a week or 2.
This is fine however and most people would be satisfied with that, would you be happier with it being crawled in half an hour and listed in a day or 2 if your answer to that is yes then get a blog.
Most of my sites disobey a lot of the essential conditions listed here to get good search results, I spent 15 years as a computer engineer and started my own business selling panic alarms with no and still limited web programing knowledge.
I started a fansite blog when I had added my first entry it was crawled within half an hour, I did not promote it anywhere except the ping facility for some of the popular blog sites that was built into the program, within a day or 2 I received my first visitor from a google search engine, it now continues to grow in popularity and is bringing many visitors, I am now looking at the search terms used to find it and adding the appropriate section to answer the visitors questions when they return.
I have now added a blog to my website offering advice on security and other information related to my website, some of this is just copied from a police website (With their permission) I was crawled within 30 minutes after my first post.
This is linked internally to a directory on the same domain as the main website with links from the blog to appropriate sections on my website.
The blog directories it pings are high pr websites, my web site is a pr3, every time I update my blog it pings these sites and is crawled again by these sites and by google.
I am waiting for the first visitor from my blog but im sure it wont be long.
have a look at my site if you wish it is not a very well designed site and built with off the shelf shopping cart with default look the blog is in the directory blog and is reached through the help button. www.mflshop.co.uk please feel free to comment I am not a web designer but it does its job and brings in money.
If this helps at least one person I will be happy, I just thought I would share it with you as it seems not to be covered very often.

I'm not opposed to blogs or blogging on any topic. But I personally don't think I have enough information to post a daily blog on pillows. I could make up some fluff and put it on there everyday to be considered "fresh content." I could write about sleeping or decorating or whatever, but I just don't have the time.
I try to write articles when I can and post them on my site in a section called "Pillow Talk" and also submit them to article directories. But I haven't written one in awhile.
I am having trouble getting any sort of listings in google, even though they've indexed all of my pages. So, if blogging is what it takes, then I might have to find a way to do it. I believe I am in the sandbox because I have most all of my pages indexed and updated every 2 weeks, but I still don't show up in the Google results. I have a Page Rank of 2. I have some pretty high ranking keywords in Yahoo and MSN, but the same words are not to be found in Google.
My site has been indexed with Google for about 7 or 8 months. I hope to be out of the sandbox soon. I could really use the Google traffic.

Well I have had my blog set up on the 4th and I have had 4 direct links, 2 from blueyonder.co.uk and 2 from google.co.uk on the 6th.
That was similar to the fansite that I set up initially, if you read about blogs on the google blog spot (Cant remember what it is called) they are quite keen on getting blogs listed, apparently blogs are the fastest growing internet sector at the moment.
Google take their data feed from the main blog directories so everytime you make an update they are pinged directly and in my experienced are crawled within minutes.
Blogs are designed to link to other blogs so you can easily get linked with other similar blogs, I even give people permission to reproduce some of my information provided they post a link back to me and give me full credit for the article.
You may have trouble writing articles about pillows on a daily or weekly basis, but you can write articles as you said on decorating also bedside lamps, beds and all bedroom furniture, even ask a manufacturer or supplier of beds or and bedroom related furniture to write an article for you, provided you offer a link to their site and give them credit most will agree.
If they see you as a valid supplier of traffic they may offer you a link back in return.
search technorati.com for related products and companies to you.
you can even back date things I have entered a quarterly newsletter from one of my suppliers and dated it back to the autumn when it was recieved and topical.
