Won't help your PR since this depends purely on IBLs, but it should help your SERPs.

I dont mean PR. Say you type in the word "gambling" into google. Having your keywords in the URL makes it more likely to come high in the search engine. gambling.com comes top.

If I bought a 2nd domain name for my site and forwarded it to it. Would the forwarding still work on the same principle or does it only work for actaul site names. ie not forwarded.

thanks

Each domino needs to be submitted alone
And each domain has his own indexing
Even so , the indexing of the domain starting by (www.domain.com) is different from the indexing the domain name like (domain.com)
So, if you buy well known domain and you forward it to your website it will help people to reach your website, but it will not helps search engines

It does have quite a big effect on the search results. say you type "cat" into google, the first result has "cat" in the url.

having the keyword in the url is going to help you beat out your competitors that doesnt have it in the keyword. You can always have a domain that redirects to your main site. The problem is that you will not be able to optimize the domain because of the redirect, you will just have the domain and that will not get you anything. You can buy the new domain and then setup a redirect from your old to your new and then after a while the serps will undestand that your new domain is the main one and start ranking it, it takes a while though!
