Does Google sort out .com names more then .co.uk's?

Post by Eavesy »

A guy I was speaking to recently said that he thought that Google was biased towards .com names as apposed to .co.uk's and I have been looking into it and in general the UK SEO companies with .com names have a higher Google PageRank then the UK seo companies with .co.uk names even if a site with a .co.uk has more quality backlinks the .com generally will still get a higher Google PageRank I don't know about SERP's beacuse there are many .co.uk websites with PR4's that are doing very well, however with regards to PageRank the .com names definatly seem to get sorted out more, I cannot find a single .co.uk SEO company with a PageRank higher then 6/10 where as with .com names there are a few PR7's and 8's like weboptimiser.com, bigmouthmedia.com & neutralize.com. I would be interested to hear what your thoughts are on this!

If your site ends with .co.uk then you would have a better chance for higher rankings on google.co.uk than google.com.

UK doesnt use google.com any more than we use google.co.uk

I don't think so
I use Google so much for every thing, and I find out mostly the same depending on the data and how much pages containing that website

I don't think the domain will do a huge difference. Ie. if you search "cheap loans" on Google.co.uk, one of the most competitive keywords, it's 5/5 .com and .co.uk.

I'd choose the domain that would convert best once people land on my site.

If your site has .co.uk in the name, it is going to also rank for the keyword UK.

If you are looking for UK stuff on google.com youll find UK stuff. The point I tried to make was that a higher percentage of the SERP page on google.co.uk were .co.uk sites.

Its the same for .com

This means (someone prove this wrong): If you are in the UK, use .co.uk for your domain extension. Use the extension of the country you are trying to optimize for.
