Just keep on link building. I think what you are doing is right to be index by google. And you can do more on forum posting, and classified ad posting.

The simple answer is no – search engine submission isn’t necessary. The majority of search engines nowadays (most notably Google) crawl and index pages by following links. Using that logic, a single inbound link from any already-indexed page will identify your page to the engine. Subsequently, if that page links to other pages within your site, they will also be indexed… and so on.

One thing that you need to watch out for though are services that claim to submitted your site to hundreds of SE's. Keep in mind that there are only a dew of these that really matter.
I agree

Search engine submission is when a website is submitted directly to a search engine. This is done by webmasters to help websites be better recognized. This is a way to promote your site and can help improve your rankings

I use google for searching the web, Yahoo to search news and msn in for images. I think all search engines have their own edge over others. Google is the most populous though.

Having a high rank in yahoo really takes time. Based on my experience, content weighs heavier on their search results. Anyway, huge traffic still come from the big G.

This is an old question that is being answered by other forums. Anyway, I still prefer to use Google as it's a good search engine.
