I would keep links to other sites off your main pages unless the other site has good credibility. Like Vistadivine said, just create a dedicated links page for the purpose of linking and you should be fine with the seo end!

From an SE standpoint, a link found on a highly ranked page will count more. But many sites have a sub-page that rank higher than their home page...
