Hi Akash I run a large uk based car classifieds website, ukcarads.co.uk

I am looking to build a site map but as im sure you can appreciate with cars and pages being added and deleted constantly and with nearly 100,000 pages and rising its not going to be a simple task.

I spoke to someone the other day who said that once i am able to get most of the pages indexed i shouldnt really need to bother too much about seo because the search engines will automatically see us as an authority for selling cars and therfore give us a better PR and higher search engine results. Would you agree?

Cheers,

Paul

Ps how did you get your signiture to become a link to your website on here?

I dont agree with that. You have to work hard for a PR and rankings. If there are no other competitors, then you will get alright rankings, but since you are selling cars, you will have competitors. PR is based off of links to your site so you will have to get plenty of them to get a decent PR

I agree with overdriveelectronics,

and will only add that a Site Map is only as detailed as you make it.

Let's say you have 100,000 cars.

Or lets assume you have 4 cars per page ( I know not right ),

so now you have at least 25,000 pages.

- are you trying to have every page in the Site Map.
- don't you realize what an engine spider or bot does ?

- if your site has adaquite html navagation, you'll be indexed.

First and foremost you need to use an application for this job,
that will spider and output the map.

But even still where are you going to print links to our 25,000 pages
or worst 100,000 pages ? it's just not realistic.

You should have your site in Groups ( like ebay for example )

Trucks,
Passenger cars,
Sports cars,

or

Tercel's,
Pinto's
Yugo's

Seriously, you have to display something useful to users, not computers.

If your addsing a Sitemap for being indexed better, your racking
your brain for nothing. If your site is like a WEB in and of it's self,
your all set.

You'll get indexed and frequantly if your data is fresh.

----
Someone help me here - I know it's bad to submit daily,
but if the single pages submitted dailty were all NEW,
and only the new pages were submitted, nothing old & not root,
seems like this would be benefitial.
----

and there are always revisit meta tags.

But IMO trying to maintain a 100000 + page site map that is constantly changing is absolutely a full-time job, even with software - someone has to at all time have a grip on this or it will be a mess.

I've made an xml sitemap, but now what do you do with it? I tried posting it as a page on my site, but Google is not recognizing it.

I finally got Google to verify my site. I guess I entered the meta verification information wrong. Well, I've corrected that....but what do you do with the xml sitemap? I used the tool that was posted in this string to make the sitemap.

Thanks
