Submitting your site can help your site to improved ranking and to be visible in the search engine. Submitting link is the 1st or second step done by the seo, submitting it to free directories, and getting more backlinks.

you may submit to search engine directly it will help you, i not know how you came to know that it will not be beneficial, now just go ahead and submit in search engine you will see different yourself.

It is not necessary to submit website on search engine. Just find out you website naturally by the searcher. For this you have to submit your website in directories.

You do not need an SEO (search engine optimizer) to present your site to Google, Yahoo or Bing. You don't pay to get into any of the big search engines natural (free or organic) listings. Google has ways of submitting your web pages directly to their index.
