And as a novice to the sport of seo, you could spend a lot of time doing things that don't work.
So it's a trade-off. Which have you got? Time, or money, to spare?

Seo is a science or an art to improve page rank of a site as well as to get high SERP result.There are many steps involve in seo process.Google have no recommendation or restriction you can do everything to get good result but should be in google's criteria.
1.Study your site.
2.Research keywords and make list of keywords releted to your site or product.
3.Write a good discription about your product and services.
4.Use your most important keyword in title tag.
5.Optimize meta tag.
6.Search engine submission.
7.Directory submission.
