I am pretty sure if you do a quick Google search, there are plenty of valuable guides & tools out there.
Using Ahrefs and some fundamental SERP analysis is a great way to start.
If you are doing content-writing, Frase could be an excellent additional tool.
1. Understand the search intent
2. Page loading speed/User experience
3. Using target KWs naturally in your title tags/meta
4. Using proper H1, H2, and H3 tags
5. Linking to relevant pages (internal/outbound)
6. Good URL structure
...the list goes on. It's really about applying the basics correctly and seeing what works for you or not. And continue to improve from there.
Ultimately, on-page SEO is all about optimizing a page's content for the users and has to be valuable or beneficial to the user.
