look for a related site and ask the site owner for a link trade..
you can also use these commands to gather some links:
"your main keyword phrase" + directory
"your main keyword phrase" + resource
"your main keyword phrase" + links

Yeh !!! these 4 things are quit sufficient for getting links from other sites to your website.

That 4 technique useful to getting the link from other sites, but u can also use some other technique as well as 4 technique such as RSS submission,using the gud keywords density and using better content for article submission,then u must improve the number of ur backlink on ur site.

You can also occasionally get links back without asking. If you have a blog for instance, and you write something nice (but not too obsequious!) about another blog in a post, sometimes that blogger will link back to you as a thank you. May even put a permalink up for you.

Does happen occasionally.
