waht is the impact of social media on search ranking?

I m waiting for reply....

I think social media will help your site to have tons of traffic, but regarding on rankings, IMO its not reliable to help you increase your SERP rankings..

Social Media optimization helps to increase the traffic for your website but it doesnt help to increase the page rank of a website.

Social media is part of site promotion wherein you can post/share the contents of your site to attract traffic. Site's amount of traffic has no influence with search ranking/SERP ranking

it is possible to have quality and relevant inbound links through social media coz these sites rank well on the search engines, their domains are powerful and having links to this site might give a great shot of ranking.

Social media optimization is optimization techniques you can get more traffic for your site if you do social media optimization.

How can we know that how many users are add our website in social book marking websites , like Digg, Del.icio.us, Google, Spurl, Blink, Furl, Simpy, Yahoo My Web?............

It boosts traffic and build backlinks if somebody linkbaits to it, if more linkbaits more backlinks and backlinks is one factor of SERPs...

what is the impact of SMO in SERP ranking? it has no impact! but somehow it helps like as what cooluks have said...

the main use of SMO is to gain traffic and not to rank high in SERP/PR...

I said according to my opinion.. and of course based on what my friend experienced though.. and yeah, its true that social media cannot help you increase your SERP rankings.. "Not unless there is a provided link there (your targeted keywords) pointing to your site right after the video.. "
