Switching Server Hosts Affect SE Ranking???

Will switching server hosts affect my search engine rankings?

as far as my experience goes, it can yes, when:
- you change country: I am based in Belgium and since my site went from a belgian to a us host the belgian google has dropped my site, not that I worry because my site is targetted on americans anyhow and google.com indexed everything lots better
- you change to a server which is known for spam: normal evolution I think, no?
