One thing to make sure is that if your using reciprocal linking that all links you trade with are high quality as if you link to banned or penalized sites you can also face a ranking penalty

It can be time consuming to check how you rank in each search engines result's pages but it's something that you need to do to see how your site is ranking.
Traffic analysis will tell you how many visitors you're getting and from where but don't tell your SERP (search engine results pages) positions and link popularity.
